Nancy Drew and the case of the very bad Migraine

14 weeks to go...

You'll hear me number my pain level in these blogs. 10 is the worst pain in your life, 5 is moderate, 0 is no pain.

5/11-I had a horrific migraine start yesterday. Pain at a 10. I woke up with it and it's unusual from my normal headaches. It's all focused in my left temple and hasn't moved location or expanded. It's severe, stabbing, sharp pain that is pulsing and radiating through my brain. I'm a little concerned since this is not how it typically feels. I'm not having vertigo like normal. I'm considering going to the ER. I can't take it much longer.

Every step, or a cough just intensifies it. I can't do anything except lay and try not to move or speak. I'm going to call my neurologist in the morning. I feel like I'm dying.

5/13-Still riding this train! The stabbing sharp pain lasted about 24 hours then stopped to my relief. It's morphed into a regular Migraine now. I'm at a 6 right now and vertigo and nausea have joined the party. I got a steroid from my neurologist to break the migraine. That usually helps me.

So I'm at a 6 but the vertigo is what's killing me. Let me explain what vertigo is like. Remember when you were a kid and you'd put your forehead on the end of a bat and spin around in a circle 20 times? And then you'd straighten up and try to run and the horizon starts to shift and you can't tell which way is up or down and your stomach jumps up into your throat? You just feel like you are in a funhouse with a rotating floor. It's like that.  Every time I move my head I get 3 seconds of that and even when I don't move it happens about 5 times a minute. It's awful and debilitating.

I just wanted to record some of my worst episodes so I can hopefully look back and say, "wow, I'm glad I'm not THAT bad anymore."
